Viator Felis is Latin for “traveling cat,” reflecting a mindset of movement, curiosity, and transformation.
Founded by Shawn Lin, the project is shaped by lived experience in Taiwan, Japan, and the United States, and by the subcultures that have influenced the designer most. Viator Felis began from a desire to express personal duality and to move beyond fixed categories.
Rooted in a rugged aesthetic and equally informed by feminine sensibilities, Viator Felis brings contrasting elements together to explore new perspectives. It is an ongoing journey of connecting different cultures and aesthetic values, and exploring what new possibilities can emerge from that fusion.
Shawn Lin — Designer
Shawn Lin developed his craft under the mentorship of Naoki Takizawa, former Creative Director of Issey Miyake. At Naoki Takizawa Design, he contributed to couture collection projects and collaborations with global brands, including work related to Uniqlo x Ines de la Fressange. He later worked as a designer at a Japanese apparel company before relocating to New York in 2024 to launch his independent project. Together, these experiences ground his practice in Japanese craftsmanship, defined by precision, material sensitivity, and contemporary luxury.
